I know we were to post this
sooner, but time goes by so
quickly!!!
Syl this is Cashel or The rock
of Cashel..

the view as we walked up the hill..

the sarcophagus inside st cormacs chapel

The tower, which was used during invasion
the stairs were over six feet high to reach
so a ladder was used...

st patricks cross, underneath it is
believed that they would hide
valuables..

you can just about make out the head!
there are over one hundred of these around
the ruin....

Sadhbh and Caoimhe in the
town...

this is inside st cormacs chapel..
the altar is actually made off centre
as it was believed that only God
could make things perfect...

this window allowed the sick
to attend mass! it was made at
an angle to the altar

The archbishop of Cashel, whom actually
started out catholic and then also
became protestant..at the same time...!!

this was the viewing window
for the archbishop
this was his private accomodation!

these are the frescos that are
slowly being uncovered
in the chapel it has taken over
ten years so far....

this picture doesnt show the
deliberate inperfections on this
canvass, again because of belief
that only God made all things
perfect....

...it is said that
on one occasion the devil was
chasing souls around the mountain
but he just couldnt catch them, he got
so mad that he bit a lump out of
the mountain to trap the souls and
then threw the piece and were it landed
formed the rock of Cashel...!

if you want to get rid of a toothache
try wrap your arms around
st patricks cross!!!
nice try Sadhbh....

some ruins we saw on the
trip home....
